I'm Sophie Harris, founder of Harris & Rose Interiors, make and teacher of all things soft furnishings.
The main workshop is located in a stable conversion on my parents arable farm, just seven miles from Cirencester Gloucestershire.
In 2019, I made the move to London to be with my fiancé (and soon to be husband, if the church is open by July). As a result of the move, I have expanded the business and now embrace a new life in the capital.
From our home, I have a small workroom where I make all of the roman blinds and any smaller commissions.
I am incredibly lucky to have two workshop fairies (in the form of my wonderful Mum and fabulous Auntie) who hold the fort for me back at Cotswolds HQ and carry out lots of prep work so that I can whizz back along the M4 and get sewing again.
I also teach workshops in curtain and blind making, both in person and now online. It's so satisfying to be able to share my skill and passion with people all across the world and to see all of your amazing achievements.
I hope to meet you soon, either as a client or a student, in person or online.
A bit more about me...
Whilst on my gap year in Australia I met up with a friend of my Aunt’s who is a real craft maker, she took me to the most enormous haberdashery you could imagine. From that moment I knew I wanted to work with textiles.
Sewing is in my genes. My great grandmother, Vera Rose (that's where the Rose part comes in!), was a glove maker for Dents. My own Grandmother, Vera's daughter, used to make curtains for my dolls house. It had velcro on the windows, so I could swap them between rooms! She was also a primary school teacher.
Growing up I always helped my Mum make curtains for our house on the lounge floor so thought I’d head in that direction.
So after an intensive training course I set up Harris & Rose in 2013 and began making bespoke soft furnishings for family and friends. My business snowballed by word of out and time has just flown by!
Since then, I have worked on some great projects. One of my first commissions was for a barn conversion, starting off with 4 meter curtains was certainly a challenge! I have almost come full circle now, with the addition of my online teaching courses. It is so rewarding to share my skill with people and see the satisfaction and pride they gain for learning a new skill which they can then repeat time and time again!
Thank you for visiting my website, and please do get in touch if you have any questions!
